My vacation is over and I am back to share my new songs, worksheets and other educational materials to help ESL teachers make their English lessons more fun and engaging.
Here is my new song I have written to teach the verb “can”, some action verbs and names of animals. This very simple song is suitable for fun activities while singing even with the smallest children. For example, in the course of singing the song kids could repeat actions of animals as seen in the little cartoon below which would certainly stimulate young learners’ cognition and memory.
Song lyrics:
Yes, I can, I can.
Yes, I can.
Yes, I can, I can.
Yes, I can.
I can jump, jump, jump like a kangaroo.
I can swim, swim, swim like a whale, too.
I can walk, walk, walk like a tall giraffe,
And like an ostrich I can run.
Yes, I can, I can.
Yes, I can.
Yes, I can, I can.
Yes, I can.
I can crawl, crawl, crawl like a jungle snake,
I can sleep, sleep, sleep like a sloth all day,
I can fly, fly, fly like a bird in the sky,
And like a monkey I can climb.
Yes, I can, I can.
Yes, I can.
Yes, I can, I can.
Yes, I can.
Flashcards
As usual I’ve created two sets of colorful flashcards to go with my “Action Verb Song” for kids to learn and remember some motion verbs and practice in using the modal verb can. The names of some wild animals are also introduced in the song. The first action verbs flashcard set contains cards with both pictures and words to help teachers introduce the new vocabulary in class. The second set includes flashcards with pictures only while words can be found on separate cards. I often use this set of flashcards for different games aiming at memorizing new vocabulary and practicing its usage.
