Hello, dear fellow teachers! Teaching grammar is always a challenge for educators especially when working with young learners. One of the first grammar topic they face on this stage is singular and plural nouns. I would like to present you my new set of flashcards featuring singular and plural nouns. This set consists of 132 flashcard pairs of which 66 picture cards feature singular nouns and other 66 picture cards feature plural nouns.
All the flashcards are divided into several groups.You can see some examples of these flashcards below.
1. The first group of flashcards includes 42 pairs of words which make the plural by adding -s. These are flashcards featuring farm and wild animals, toys, objects, food, and clothes.
There are the following pairs of words:
Farm animals: cat - cats, dog - dogs, cow - cows, pig - pigs, hen - hens, rabbit - rabbits.
Forest animals: bear - bears, squirrel - squirrels, snail - snails, snake - snakes, raccoon - raccoons, bee - bees.
Zoo animals: tiger - tigers, zebra - zebras, elephant - elephants, lion - lions, koala - koalas, kangaroo - kangaroos.
Toys: ball - balls, doll - dolls, bike - bikes, balloon - balloons, car - cars, robot - robots.
Objects: pencil - pencils, bag - bags, book - books, sofa - sofas, chair - chairs, cup - cups.
Food: apple - apples, plum - plums, banana - bananas, carrot - carrots, cucumber - cucumbers, pumpkin - pumpkins.
Clothes: shirt - shirts, jacket - jackets, mitten - mittens, hat - hats, shoe - shoes, umbrella - umbrellas.

2. The second group of flashcards includes the words that end with -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o and make the plural by adding -es.
There are the following pairs of words:
-s, -ss: bus - buses, walrus - walruses, octopus - octopuses, dress - dresses, glass - glasses, princess - princesses.
-sh, -x: brush - brushes, bush - bushes, dish - dishes, radish - radishes, fox - foxes, box - boxes.
-ch: watch - watches, bench - benches, peach - peaches, sandwich - sandwiches, bunch - bunches, ostrich - ostriches.
-o + -es: tomato - tomatoes, potato - potatoes, volcano - volcanoes, mosquito - mosquitoes, buffalo - buffaloes, mango - mangoes.
-o + -s: hippo - hippos, rhino - rhinos, piano - pianos, radio - radios, video - videos, photo - photos.
Words making plural by adding -s, but thanks to the previous consonants the ending sounds like [iz]: horse - horses, face - faces, house - houses, orange - oranges, cabbage - cabbages, bridge - bridges.
-sh, -x: brush - brushes, bush - bushes, dish - dishes, radish - radishes, fox - foxes, box - boxes.
-ch: watch - watches, bench - benches, peach - peaches, sandwich - sandwiches, bunch - bunches, ostrich - ostriches.
-o + -es: tomato - tomatoes, potato - potatoes, volcano - volcanoes, mosquito - mosquitoes, buffalo - buffaloes, mango - mangoes.

3. The third group of picture flashcards includes the words which end with -y.
There are the following pairs of words:
Vowel + -y + -s: donkey - donkeys, monkey - monkeys, turkey - turkeys, key - keys, boy - boys, toy - toys.
Consonant + y = -ies:
a) teddy - teddies, pony - ponies, puppy - puppies, bunny - bunnies, lady - ladies, daisy - daisies;
b) baby - babies, candy - candies, lorry - lorries, family - families, city - cities, cherry - cherries;
c) fly - flies, butterfly- butterflies, dragonfly - dragonflies, strawberry - strawberries, raspberry - raspberries, gooseberry - gooseberries.

-f changes to - v + es: shelf - shelves, leaf - leaves, wolf - wolves, half - halves, calf - calves, knife - knives, elf - elves, scarf - scarves.
-f + -s: roof - roofs, cliff - cliffs, handkerchief - handkerchiefs, giraffe - giraffes.

5. The last group of singular and plural noun flashcards includes the irregular forms of nouns.
There are the following pairs of words:
a) man - men, fireman - firemen, snowman - snowmen, woman - women, child - children, person - people;
b) goose - geese, tooth - teeth, foot - feet, mouse - mice, cactus - cacti, ox - oxen;
c) fish - fish, jellyfish - jellyfish, deer - deer, sheep - sheep, salmon - salmon, moose - moose.

I've also created a set of small cards with corresponding words. ESL teachers can use my picture cards and word cards to play such games as “What iss missing?” or “What are your favorite toys?” etc., or your students can match pictures with corresponding words.
